Caring For Cell Phone Batteries

There are few things more frustrating than having to contend with your mobile phone conking out at the most inopportune of times. And the number one culprit for such a mishap: faulty cell phone batteries. This is, indeed, quite unfortunate. The truth of the matter is, phone batteries can actually be optimized for maximal use with proper care. This care should be practiced the moment your purchase your mobile phone.
Most mobile phones these days come with pre-packed cell phone batteries. More often than not, these batteries are rechargeable as well, meaning you won’t have to dispose of them once their life runs out. You just have to connect an adapter to recharge them, and they’ll be as good as new. The battery problems encountered can usually be traced to poor charging procedures. Hence, here are some do’s and don’ts that would help you extend the life of your cell phone batteries.
* New cell phone batteries have to be conditioned. This means that you should run them empty the first time out before charging them to full power. Cell phone batteries have internal memories that tell them when their life is about to run out, and this is reflected on the LCD screen of the mobile phone itself. Failure to condition your cell phone batteries would lead to miscalculated warnings, and consequently, improper charging.
* Do not overcharge. Though there are cell phone batteries that are resistant against overcharging, there are also those which do not have a shutoff feature against too much electric storage. Play it safe. Once the LCD says that the batteries are full, switch off the adopter.
* Keep in mind that some features of your mobile phone can consume much of your battery’s power. The vibration function, backlight, keypad sound, and actual talk time are energy consumers that could significantly reduce your battery’s charge life. Standby time should not be made a gauge of actual battery life. Check out the talk time length instead when considering cell phone batteries.
* Cell phone batteries don’t last forever. They also have a specific lifespan. Usually, this is approximated at 300 charge cycles, meaning, a cell phone battery is only good for 300 charges. This doesn’t mean that after such a period, the battery would be rendered useless. It just means that once 300 cycles are reached, the battery is expected to start encountering some problems, such as shorter charge life, automatic shutoffs and the likes.
Even if cell phone batteries do have an average lifespan of 300 charge cycles, their usage can still be extended with proper care. A longer battery life means a longer enjoyment of your mobile phone.
